BDD Date Calculator

Calculate your VA Benefits Delivery at Discharge window and all key pre-separation milestones from your Final Active Duty Date.

How this is calculated

BDD lets you file a VA disability claim 180 to 90 days before separation, so your rating decision and first payment can land as close to day one of civilian life as possible. This calculator works backward from the Final Active Duty Date (FADD) you enter to lay out every milestone on that timeline: a records-inventory start at T-365, a window to schedule appointments for under-documented conditions at T-300, a target to finish all appointments by T-210 (so records exist before you file), the BDD window opening at T-180, and the BDD window closing at T-90 — the last day a BDD claim can be filed before you're limited to a standard post-separation claim.

If you enter optional Terminal Leave, PTDY, or SkillBridge days, the calculator also back-calculates when each of those periods begins relative to your FADD, and — based on your branch, component, and rank — surfaces any branch-specific SkillBridge policy warnings or an IRR assignment warning where applicable.

Read the full BDD guide for eligibility rules, what conditions to claim, and how to file.

Frequently asked questions

What happens if I'm already inside 90 days of my FADD?

BDD is closed once you're fewer than 90 days from separation. At that point you file a standard disability claim after you separate rather than a BDD claim — the process is otherwise the same, just without the pre-separation filing window.

Does adding SkillBridge or terminal leave change my BDD dates?

No — your BDD window is always calculated from your FADD, not from the start of terminal leave or SkillBridge. Those fields only add extra milestone cards to your results and trigger relevant branch-specific policy warnings.

Why does the calculator ask for my rank?

Rank is optional and used only to check SkillBridge eligibility warnings, since some branch SkillBridge policies apply differently by rank or seniority. It has no effect on your BDD dates themselves.
